Mental health - Instagram

The most popular app of this generations has been called out to be negative and causing multiple of people to have severe mental health issues. most audiences ask why this has happened as its been downloaded by almost half of the worlds population. Users have been vert competitive with other users to get the most likes and followers. Also many argue that Instagram has become a negative and disturbing platform where users get inappropriate and make it a dating platform instead of sharing similar interests. Instagram used to be a platform where users share pictures of their hobbies, art and many more creative context however this whole idea has been twisted in a very negative way. users try to compete and get severe mental health issues when they don't get the desired amount of likes and followers as they wanted. They start to get self-conscious about the way they look and start to question why they don't look as good as the users with many followers that receive the wrong kind of attention. In some cases this mental health issue leads to suicide. Many users show a hyper reality of their life meaning they try to falsely manipulate their life and how they look using filters or pretending they are living a certain lifestyle when in fact its all an act to get likes. Images are manipulated by making it seem like someone is always happy and attending many social gatherings when in fact they are sitting at home lonely and wanting to have that life style for themselves , this also causes severe mental health issues. Instagram influencers have pushed this boundary of hyper reality and in some cases have made this idea of hyper reality worse as they get paid to post certain pictures just to promote a brand even when they don't use it , this will get them income. This leads to users believing in what they post and comparing it to their own life and there fore again leads to negative thoughts and mental issues caused by Instagram.
